Today was an extraordinary day at our Hask Dojo as we were honored to host Grand Master Gary Gregory, the esteemed 16th Khan Chatura Karu (Grand Master) of Muay Thai Korat-Navarach. With a remarkable career spanning back to 1988, he has dedicated his life to the art of Muay Thai, excelling not only as a practitioner but also as a teacher. His experience includes competing in both Western Boxing and Muay Thai, showcasing his versatility and skill in combat sports.
As a senior Muay Thai instructor at Gym 01 in Portsmouth and a senior instructor/adviser to the Royal Navy Muay Thai, Grand Master Gary Gregory's expertise is widely recognized. His contributions have been acknowledged by the Thai Government Physical Education Department and the Institute of Thai Arts and Culture, solidifying his reputation as a true authority in the field.
Under his guidance, today's session focused on Thai Boxing (Dtoi Muay), delving into the intricacies of this traditional martial art. The class commenced with shadow boxing and warm-up drills, emphasizing the importance of footwork in controlling movements and preparing the body for rigorous training.
Participants then paired up to practice simple combinations and various striking techniques, honing their skills under the watchful eye of Grand Master Gary Gregory. The session culminated with a detailed exploration of Muay Plam or Clinch, where students learned the nuances of neck control, knee strikes, elbow techniques at close range, and effective sweeps.
The enthusiasm and eagerness of everyone present to learn and absorb knowledge were palpable throughout the session. Grand Master Gary's guidance and expertise not only enriched the participants' understanding of Muay Thai but also instilled a deeper appreciation for the art form.
We express our heartfelt gratitude to Grand Master Gary Gregory for yet another invaluable session, providing us with the opportunity to expand our skill set, learn new techniques, and deepen our knowledge of Muay Thai. His presence at our Dojo continues to inspire and empower all those who seek to master this ancient martial art.
