HASK team arrived in Midhurst around 09:30, ready to engage with the Lithuanian Community "Gintareliai" camp. The atmosphere was filled with curiosity as wondering eyes followed our every move, but any initial hesitations were quickly dispelled as we were warmly welcomed by the organized and gracious host, Gintare Ileviciute. As HASK members changed into their Karate uniforms, the campers began their warm-up with a traditional dancing routine led by the organizer.
The training session kicked off with 4 rows of eager campers facing 4 HASK members holding punching bags. The tasks were set: punch with the right hand in stance, execute continuous punches for 20 repetitions, and practice kicking the punch bag. The energy was palpable as everyone enthusiastically participated, relishing the opportunity to start their day with such invigorating physical activity.
Following the vigorous exercise, the session transitioned into light sparring. Some campers initially displayed shyness and uncertainty in their techniques, but our instructors were quick to offer guidance and support, ensuring that everyone felt included and empowered to improve.
The educational segment of the session was particularly enlightening, with Renshi Daz Stirrat demonstrating self-defense techniques such as applying pressure to the eye and throat grabbing. These lessons were especially impactful for the female participants, equipping them with valuable skills and knowledge. The session concluded with a demonstration tailored towards children, teaching them what to do in the event of a kidnapping.
Despite the challenges posed by the weather, including a light drizzle and slippery grass, the dedication and passion of both the HASK team and the campers remained unwavering. This collaborative relationship between the Lithuanian Community and HASK has flourished over the past 2 years, fostering a strong bond built on mutual respect and frienship.
